This painting began with two figures in mind, each one searching for the other in a bright, winding world. I thought about those moments when you’re looking for someone important… how the search can feel hopeful, a little anxious, but also kind of fun. There’s a playful, almost hide-and-seek feeling to it, like two kids exploring a neighborhood, trying to meet in the middle.

I chose a retro color palette reminiscent of vintage illustrations, which gives the scene a nostalgic, storybook vibe. Working on cardboard loosened me up… I treated it like an experiment, embracing little imperfections and happy accidents along the way. It turned into a true creative exploration for me, playing with color and composition without a strict plan. In the end, I love that the two characters are there, somewhere in the painting, looking for each other. It’s as much about looking to connect as it is about the moment they finally meet.

Looking for Each Other is featured in an art commentary video on my YouTube channel, showing the painting’s creation in real time and in time-lapse, from start to finish.
